Petrobras
The petroleum environment requires a robust telecommunications infrastructure. A real example is Petrobrás, which needs high-performance data transmission cables and very specific applications on its oil exploration platforms.
Needs range from data transmission in diver operations to the task of interconnecting computers. So far, nothing much. The problems begin in the environment where the products are used, which often has little space and high salinity and pressure.
The solution to Petrobras' restrictions came with the field experience of Innovcable , a national company specializing in cables for industrial applications.
“We developed a composite cable for Petrobras capable of transmitting data and electrical energy, eliminating the need to install a double network”, explains the new business manager. According to him, limitations like these were one of the impediments to the greater adoption of computers within a platform. “Furthermore, the products are completely smoke-free and do not cause the generation of toxic gases, which are fundamental requirements for this type of environment. Technically, cables should never cause danger or inconvenience to users”, reinforces the executive.
The problem of interference in the metallic cable – we are talking about two different transmissions in the same infrastructure – was mitigated with a specific construction technology, adopting special shields. “They prevent the signal transmission speed from being reduced or the signal being completely lost”, adds the manager who, for reasons of industrial secrecy, does not detail the technological route of manufacturing the material.
The computer network infrastructure is not Innovcable for the Brazilian oil industry. Two years ago, the company had already developed underwater cables for use by divers in various activities. “In this case, the project was also executed according to the client’s needs”, says the executive. “The products have in common characteristics of resistance to severe pressure and salinity conditions”, he reinforces.
Innovcable 's only niche . Located in Sumaré, SP, the company has just expanded its plant, with an eye on the growth of Brazilian industry. Today, the company manufactures more than 5000 types of cables for various segments. The diversity is explained by the very specific applications of each type of environment. “Industrial cables are a very different universe in terms of data transmission, which requires the capacity for rapid development”, he says.
Application in a different industry allows entry into hitherto unexplored markets for the supply of data cables, such as the textile segment. “Our products are widely used in industrial automation, which requires long-lasting and highly resistant solutions, due to the high movement of the machines”, adds the manager.
He also highlights that Innovcable developed a flat cable, a specific product that follows the mobility of equipment in an industry and makes data transmission on the factory floor possible. “Due to these demands, our focus is on the manufacture of special cables”, adds the executive.
