The oil and gas environment demands a robust telecommunication infrastructure. A real example is Petrobras that needs high performance data transmission cables and very specific applications on its oil exploration platforms.

The needs range from data transmission in diver operations and the task of interconnecting computers. So far, so good. The problems start in the environment where the products are used, which often presents little space and high salinity and pressure.

The solution to Petrobras' restrictions came with the field experience of Innovcable, a national company specialised in cables for industrial applications.

"We developed for Petrobras a composite cable capable of transmitting data and electric power, dispensing with the installation of a double network," explains the new business manager. According to him, limitations such as these were one of the impediments to the greater adoption of computers within a platform. "In addition, the products have total smoke emission redaction and do not cause the generation of toxic gases, fundamental requirements of this type of environment. Technically, the cables should never cause danger or inconvenience to users", reinforces the executive.

The problem of interference in the metallic cable - we are talking about two different transmissions in the same infrastructure - was mitigated with a specific construction technology, adopting special shielding. "They prevent the speed of signal transmission from being reduced or the total loss of the signal", adds the manager, who, for reasons of industrial secrecy, does not detail the technological route of the manufacture of the material.

The computer network infrastructure is not Innovcable 's first innovation for the Brazilian oil industry. Two years ago, the company had already developed submarine cables for use by divers in various activities. "In this case, the project was also executed according to the client's needs," says the executive. "The products have in common the characteristics of resistance to severe pressure and salinity conditions," he reinforces.

The petrochemical industry is not the only niche in which Innovcable operates. Located in Sumaré, SP, the company has just expanded its plant with an eye on the growth of the Brazilian industry. Today, the company manufactures over 5000 types of cables for various segments. The diversity is explained due to the very specific applications of each type of environment. "Industrial cables are a very different universe in terms of data transmission, which requires the capacity for rapid development", he says.

The application in different industries allows the entry in markets previously unexplored for the supply of data cables, such as the textile segment. "Our products are widely used in industrial automation, which requires solutions with a long life and great resistance, due to the high movement of the machines," adds the manager.

He also highlights that Innovcable has developed a flat type cable, a specific product that accompanies the mobility of the equipment of an industry and makes possible the transmission of data on the factory floor. "Because of these demands, our focus is on the manufacture of special cables", added the executive.
